Letter from Jack Allbeury 14 June 1978.  I've included the map of Melbourne General Cemetery that shows the Allbeury plots.  I haven't included printouts of nineteen century newspapers. Go to TROVE and search for Allbeury.  Key content:

Henry G - died 3/1/1870 aged 3 years

Bienamee - died 25/4/1887 aged 15 years

Capt John George - died 5/6/1887 aged 61 years

Harriet A Goding - died 14/91888 aged 50 years

Letter from Mrs G Dolbel (sic) to Evelyn Streitberg undated but circa 1914.  The first is a cover note by Bess Peterkin and a transcription of the letter and the second a copy of the letter.  These entries are copied onto other pages of the blog as well. The square bracket insertions are by me to clarify who is speaking or the subject.

Cover note
March 16th 1974
This copy of relationships came to me [Bess] with
a lot of odds and ends given to me by Jack [Streitberg]
within the past 10 years.  I can well
remember it coming to Mum [Evelyn Streitberg] and the comments
about it - I must have been about 14 or 16
at this time. There was possibly a letter
with it.  The original is very fragile about
impossible to read where it has been folded.
Note also the surname is Dolbel not Dobell.
yours Bess. [Peterkin]

"Lil Binet is the (only living) child of our
Aunt Binet at the time of her death was
named Babot having married again and she
our aunt was your father's and my mother's
half sister our grandmother Allbeury having
been married three times, your father and
my mother were full brother & sister and
there was another brother Henry Allbeury
who died at sea when quite a young man
The Allbeury's were pure English (originated in
Kent) but on the grandmothers side were
pure Jersey stock but 400 years previous or
thereabouts were French Huguenots.

London Censuses 1841 and 1851
« on: Tuesday 06 March 12 10:23 GMT (UK) »
My 3rd Great Grandfather was John George Allbeury, I do not know where he was born, although I believe he was married in Rochester, Kent to Mary ? in 1795.
Sometimes the surname is misspelt as Allbury or Albury.
I would be very grateful if someone could look up the London 1841 and 1851 censuses to see if they can find him and glean any further information, especially his date of birth and place of birth. I live in Fance and am unable to look.
He may have lived in Wandsworth, Tower Hamlets or Whitechapel during the period 1835-1855 as his sons Edward and Robert lived there.
In anticipation - many thanks

yet you believe that he MAY have been born in Wales?

What records relate to his sons?
What addresses/occupations did they hold at what dates?

KGarrad is right, start with what you know  ;)

Have you looked at CityArk website (free to search) for the Rochester marriage and Gillingham baptisms

Your online tree also shows that John George Allbeury died 1860 Lambeth but that is incorrect.
The John George who died in 1860 Lambeth was bc.1834.

You also show his son Edward b.1801 Gillingham as having died Wandsworth area 1856.   That is also incorrect.

The Edward who died then was bc.1790 Clapham and was buried 19/10/1856 Streatham.

To PaulineJ - Ref your post at 1125 - I don't see the point of your post ! My question on this thread referred to his possible residence in London in 1841-1851 whereas the post in the Wales thread referred to his possible birth in Wales - two different things.
To KGarrad and Rosie99 - ref your posts - I have all the gggrandfather details but they are no help - he was born in Gillingham, Kent. I have a letter clearly stating that John George was born in Wales but no other clues other than he was a ropemaker and a Mason. I have looked at hundreds of Cityark images and can not find the information I'm looking for.
To Annette7 - Ref your post at 1151 you are quite correct I've put the death date in the wrong John George (his grandson) on my tree.
Ref your 1202 - Thank you, I'll remove Edwards death date from my tree

I see on another thread that you were given details of another child born to John and Mary i.e.

John George Albury b.25/10/1794, bp.28/12/1794 St. George in the East, London, son of John Albury, Ropemkr. and Mary of Bishop's Field

Following on from this I have also found the baptism of Joseph 1796 which you don't appear to have from looking at your online tree:

Joseph bp.30/4/1796 St. George in the East, London son of John Anbrey, Ropemkr and Mary, of Sun Tavern Fields.  (I looked at original and it definitely looks like Anbrey but could be Allbrey if the 2 l's are short).

However, I feel sure that this is your Joseph because next child Henry's baptism (which I know you have details of) reads:

Henry bp.20/5/1798 St. George in the East, London son of John Alberry, Ropemkr. and Mary, of Sun Tavern Fields.

I also think I have found the marriage of John and Mary:

John Allbrey married Mary Toon 29/12/1793 Limehouse St. Ann

(Although the cleric has recorded the surname as Allbrey if you look at John's signature he has clearly written his surname as Allbeury.   Also, Ancestry have transcribed the year as 1794 but if you look at original page it is actually 1793.

So, it looks as if John and Mary married in London, had 3 sons baptised in St. George in the East, and then around 1799 moved to Gillingham where they lived for a while.   However, since 3 of their children married in Jersey I would think some/all the family moved there for a while and since burials cannot be found in Gillingham or Rochester (where some of the family later lived) would think it a strong bet that John himself died in Jersey.

I would also think that John more likely born ca.1770 - certainly, there seems no trace of either John or Mary on the census and would think both were probably dead by then.

Annette you are a star ! Many thanks for your time and help, this new information will hopefully get me out of the rut and refresh my research efforts on Jersey. I already have strong ancestry connections in Jersey so this would tie in well; as Robert William Allbeury (John George's son) married a Le Boutillier in Jersey and I have loads of information about them. This may help me find out where JG was born. Thanks again - Nick

Have also found 2 burials for you:

Joseph (b.1796) was buried 8/6/1845 St. Nicholas, Rochester

Edward (b.1801) was buried 9/8/1838 St. Nicholas, Rochester.
